Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Dawn Bradshaw
Dr. Dawn Bradshaw showed an early aptitude for science at age nine by excavating bat skeletons from underneath the family's back porch. An array of childhood pets included white mice, rats, turtles and one cat. After college and away from her dad's allergies, she got a dog, fell in love with medicine, and finally graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 1991.
Dawn lives in Bloomington with about 30 pounds of cats and 4-1/2 pounds of dog. Her special interests in veterinary medicine include cat and dog training and behavior, surgery, geriatrics and dentistry. When not working, and sometimes while working, she enjoys singing, motorcycling, gardening with native plants, canoeing and eating chocolate.
Dr. Joyce Tesarek
Dr. Tesarek, otherwise known as Dr. Joyce, became the owner of Minnehaha Animal Hospital in 1983. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry at Gustavus Adolphus College, her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota, and her certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration from Purdue.
Dr. Joyce is an active volunteer in her neighborhood organization and church. She serves on the executive boards of the South Chicago Avenue Business Alliance, the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Services, The Animal Care Foundation and Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota. In 2006 she received the ?ernín Palace Bronze Medallion and diploma from the government of the Czech Republic for "great and significant contribution to the progress of Czech-American relations."
Although primarily involved with hospital management, Dr. Joyce still regularly consults on hospital cases. In her free time, she enjoys ethnic activities, travel, gardening and spending time with friends, family and her many pets. Click here to see Dr. Joyce's pets.
Dr. Melissa Weisman
Dr. Melissa Weisman earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1994 from the University of Minnesota.
Following graduation, she completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University
of Illinois. She has spent the last 15 years in the Twin Cities caring for companion animals and exotics.
She worked for 5 years at the Minnesota Zoological Garden and continues to volunteer there on a regular basis.
Dr. Weisman has a special interest in small animal ultrasound and has spent the past year performing scans
with a mobile veterinary radiologist. For leisure, Dr. Weisman enjoys biking, baking, gardening, quilting,
and camping up north with her family and 2 dogs, "Wilson" and "Daisy".
Dr. Rachel Meloy
Dr. Rachel Meloy earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2001 from Iowa State University. After graduating, she completed her internship near Washington DC and continued to work in northern Virginia until moving to Minneapolis in 2003. Dr. Rachel joined the staff at MAH in the Spring of 2004. She lives with her husband Brian and their greyhound Indy. She enjoys running, listening to live music, and any outdoor activity. Dr. Tom Schuld
Dr. Tom Schuld joined Minnehaha Animal Hospital at the end of March 2008. His path here, however, had a number of detours along the way. After earning his MBA at the University of Minnesota and spending 13 years in the corporate world, he decided to pursue his passion by returning to the U of M and completed his veterinary training in 2002. Since that time, he has been in small animal practice in the Twin Cities area. Tom's special veterinary interests include dentistry and orthopedic surgery.
Tom has been a resident of South Minneapolis for nearly 20 years. His home life is shared with his wife, Gail, three children, two Shiba Inu dogs (Kimi and Rusty) and a very personable turtle named Curi. When not at the hospital, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, running or biking, fishing with his daughter and working on an endless list of home improvement projects that come with an 86 year old house.
Dr. Tonia Stephani

Dr. Tonia Stephani earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology in 1993 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 2001. Dr. Tonia joined the staff at Minnehaha Animal Hospital in the fall of 2001.
Dr. Tonias home life is shared with her family, her dogs Rory and Squirrel, her cat Little One, and box turtle Ira. When not at the hospital she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and pets.

Nikole Carlson, DC
Dr. Nikole Carlson earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2004 from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis, MN. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Marys University in Winona, MN. Dr. Carlson grew up with a love for animals and knew that she would incorporate animals into her practice. After completing the proper post-graduate training at Options for Animals in Wellsville, KS, she became an IVCA-certified animal chiropractor in June 2007. Dr. Carlson treats dogs, cats and horses.
