Meet Our Staff

Minnehaha Animal Hospital has served our South Minneapolis neighborhood for over 25 years. We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care and health-related educational opportunities for our clients.

Dr. Joyce Tesarek, Veterinarian, Practice Owner

Dr. Joyce has been intrigued with animals for as long as she can remember. It was no surprise when she took that love to a new level and attended veterinary medical school after college. Now, with more than 20 years of experience, she still connects with animals on a personal basis.

When not attending to her 4 cats, Dr. Joyce spends her time overseeing operations at both Minnehaha Animal Hospital and partner clinic, Pet Doctors. Although the owner and Hospital Director, she still consults on cases at both facilities.

Those that know Dr. Joyce will attest that she is a bundle of energy. One of her greatest passions (other than animals!) is celebrating her roots by participating in local and international Czech activities. She is also an active community and church volunteer, and in her profession. She likes to spend any other free time studying the Enneagram, traveling, gardening and hanging out with family and friends. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Norm and cats, Panda, Radar, Kitty and Margo.

Dr. Bobbi Soule, Veterinarian, Medical Director

Dr. Soule earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Notre Dame in 2000. While there, she was actively involved in the marching, concert and jazz bands playing her trumpet. She next went to the University of Minnesota and got her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Right after graduation, she began work at a clinic in Bloomington. She was there for seven years. She started working for Minnehaha Animal Hospital and Pet Doctors near the end of 2011. Her special interests include feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.

At home, she has a yellow lab named Miles and three cats, Koa, Madeline and James. In her free time she enjoys listening to, and playing, music.

Dr. Tonia Stephani, Veterinarian

Dr. Tonia Stephani earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, and worked for several years at the Minnesota Department of Health before returning to the University of Minnesota and graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She has been a member of the staff at Minnehaha Animal Hospital since September of 2001.

In her free time, Dr. Tonia enjoys reading, gardening, working on home improvement projects, and spending time with her family. Her faithful companions are her dog Squirrel, box turtle Ira and Fuego the cat.

Dr. Rachel Meloy, Veterinarian, Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist

Dr. Rachel Meloy earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2001 from Iowa State University. After graduating, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery near Washington DC and continued to work in northern Virginia until moving to Minneapolis in 2003. She joined the staff at MAH in the spring on 2004. Dr. Rachel was certified in Medical Acupuncture through Colorado State University in May 2009. Her professional interests include pain management, hospice care and greyhound adoption.Rachel lives with her husband Brian and their greyhound Indy in South Minneapolis. She enjoys travel, running, listening to live music, and any outdoor activity.

Dr. Erin Dush, Veterinarian

Dr. Dush is available for appointments starting July 9th. Dr. Erin Dush is originally from Michigan, where she completed a degree in Exercise Science from Saginaw Valley State University before moving to Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She relocated to the Twin Cities with her fiancé, adventure cat Josie, and border collie Obie. Dr. Dush enjoys anything outside and active, especially hiking, camping, kayaking, and running. Her veterinary interests include feline medicine and soft tissue surgery, and she is a passionate advocate of the human-animal bond.

Dr. Cat Cross, DVM, ABVP, Veterinarian

Dr Cat Cross is happy to join the team at Minnehaha Animal Hospital as the “new old doctor”.
Dr. Cat Cross received her DVM degree from Texas A&M University in 1986. She completed a post-doctoral internship at the University of Illinois with areas of concentration in internal medicine and oncology. In 1996, Dr. Cross became Board Certified in Canine and Feline practice with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. At that time, she was one of only 330 veterinarians in the country with that distinction.
Dr. Cross owned a small animal hospital for twenty years in Fort Collins Colorado before moving to Minneapolis. In addition to leading the veterinary team at the hospital, Dr. Cross has served as one of twelve selected members of the General Practitioner Advisory Board for Eli Lilly as well as a Key Opinion Leader for Novartis. Dr. Cross is a past board member of the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the Larimer Humane Society. Her most memorable veterinary experiences all involve families and children enthusiastically welcoming a "four-footed angel" into their lives and she looks forward to meeting yours!

Dr. Kevin Thorsgaard, Veterinarian

Dr. Kevin Thorsgaard joined the team at Minnehaha Animal Hospital in February 2013. Kevin grew up in Bloomington, and earned a Biology degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield, where he learned it was possible to combine his interests in science, medicine and animals into one rewarding career. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1990. Since then, working in private practices in the Twin Cities has given him the opportunity to meet thousands of people and help them take care of their special pets. Kevin enjoys the challenge of solving medical mysteries, providing excellent preventative care, performing a variety of surgical procedures, and working closely with owners to give their pets the happiest, longest life possible.

He enjoys most outdoor activities and travel, especially with his wife of 25 years, their two children, and Shelties Chip and Diego.
